The Oscars & Wedding Trends

Oscar nominated The Artist

A lot of wedding blogs look to the red carpet to see how big awards shows like the Grammys or Oscars will affect wedding fashions. We think it’s not just what the stars wear that can influence weddings, but the nominated movies themselves. This year though it almost seems like wedding trends have influenced the Oscars!

The Knot and other authorities predicted that in 2011 weddings would move away from Mad Men retro and go farther back to Jazz Age inspiration. Four of this year’s movies, Hugo, Midnight in Paris, War Horse and The Artist all have that Jazz Age/World War I vibe. This Jazz Age inspired wedding comes via the blog Marry You Me with photos from Karlisch Photography.

For those not quite done with the Mad Men look, there’s The Help – nominated for Best Picture, Best Actress, and two Best Supporting Actress awards. As well as My Week with Marilyn nominated for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor, and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, nominated for best actor. Here we have Michelle Williams as Marilyn Monroe and a Marilyn inspired wedding dress courtesy of Belle the Magazine.

We like the idea of The Descendants influencing people to a relaxed destination wedding vibe, with Hawaiian music and dancers, even if they’re getting married at home. The photo that’s not George Clooney is by photographer Scott Kelsey and was featured in our Real Wedding section.

We’re curious if Hugo’s mix of 1930s and futuristic images might be the push that the SteamPunk wedding needs to get in to the mainstream! The Anthropologie meets SteamPunk wedding below comes courtesy of Wed Loft.
